Surbiton HC Ladies 1s have been English champions for the last 4 seasons and will be hoping to make the most of home advantage in their bid to better a 4th place finish at the 2017 EHCC tournament. With several GB internationals, a number of exciting club players and some very promising juniors Surbiton L1s have a great blend of youth and experience, and there is a real buzz around the club about hosting the event.
HC ’s Hertogenbosch, who are more commonly known as Den Bosch, come into the tournament as firm favourites. In the last 19 years they have won the EuroHockey Club Cup 15 times. Den Bosch are equally dominant in the Dutch League having won the championship title 18 times in the last 20 years. In 2009 and 2013 Den Bosch lost to Amsterdam in the final on both occasions. They have started this season in fine form and are currently top of the hoofdklasse having won all of their matches.
Amsterdam will be the second Dutch team in the competition and will be more than capable of bringing home the trophy. Amsterdam have taken part in the tournament twice before winning it in 2014. They are the only Dutch club that have managed to beat Den Bosch in the Dutch League twice in the last 7 years.
The German team have won their domestic league three times in a row and have had some recent successes in the EuroHockey Club Championships. Winning a bronze medal in 2016, they provided some of the most thrilling matches of the competition in 2017 and finished second to Den Bosch.
They will be coming back this year trying to go one better and claim the top spot.
Club Campo Villa de Madrid are another regular participant with last year's competition the only time they have not been present since 2010. They are previous bronze medal winners. Club de Campo had a stellar domestic season last year winning both the Cup and League and have started this season in equally dominant fashion winning every game in the League so far.
University College Dublin HC enjoyed a fantastic season in 2016/17 with the ladies securing the University Championships, the Irish Senior Cup, the EYHL League and the EYHL Champions Cup. UCD have started the defence of their league title well sitting at the top of the table. This will be their second appearance at the EuroHockey Club Championship, previously losing out to Surbiton in the 5th 6th Playoff having beaten Canterbury.
This will be Mannheimer's first appearance at the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup. The German club currently sit top of their domestic league.
Victoria Hockey Club was founded in the city of Smalyavichy in 2009. This will be the Belarussian’s second appearance in the EuroHockey Club Cup and they have twice been Belarus’s Ladies Field Hockey champions in 2012 and for the 2016/17 season.
A small club with only 23 players, Victoria Hockey Club includes 15 members of the National women’s hockey team or National mixed hockey team. Since it was founded, Victoria HC has produced 37 nationally ranked players, 28 national championship winners and 11 fully international players.
